URLMenu 99 is a Windows 95/98/NT application for Internet Explorer, Netscape and Opera users. It has two main features - access to your bookmarks from a tray icon, and automatic launching of URLs from any piece of text! Plus a bunch of other things to make life easier

URLMenu is a tiny download weighing in at less than 300kb, and has more features than applications ten times the size. Many features are completely usable for free, but some of the more advanced features do require registration.

Taskbar icon

URLMenu's taskbar icon and menu While URLMenu is running you get a great popup menu on your taskbar, which gives instant access to your Internet Explorer or Netscape bookmarks.

Not only that, you can jump to your home and search pages. Internet Explorer users can also organize their bookmarks!

Once you use it, you'll be hooked.

Custom Skins

If you like normal looking Windows menus, that's fine. Use the 'URLMenu Classic' skin. If you want something a bit different, choose a skin to suit your mood. The download includes a few alternatives, and more are available on the skin download page! Design one yourself!

Find favorites, fast!

Losing your bookmarks in a long forgotten hierarchy of folders? Rediscover them with the 'Find Favorites' dialog. As you type into the box at the top of the dialog, URLMenu instantly shows you all of your favorites that contain that text in their titles.

Find Favorite dialog

If you have a lot of favorites, you'll wonder how you managed without this!

This dialog also allows you to copy favorites to the clipboard for use in mail messages or HTML documents.

Hyperlinks from anywhere

Copy a piece of text to the clipboard twice in rapid succession, and URLMenu will scan the text for a URL and launch it! Somebody just mailed you an interesting URL? Select it, press Ctrl+C twice, and hey presto! - your browser fires up. If you prefer, you can configure URLMenu to remember the URL for later access from the popup menu.

Use two browsers? (or even three?)

URLMenu supports the bookmarking systems used by Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator and Opera. If you use more than one browser, you'll find a number of useful features in URLMenu:

  • URLMenu launches URLs into whatever browser is running, rather than the 'default' browser.
  • URLMenu can dynamically merge two sets of bookmarks into one menu. Instant synchronisation!
  • Export links as IE favorites, a Netscape bookmark file or an Opera hotlist.
  • Add new links from any browser to your 'primary' collection.

Link checking wizard

A linking checking wizard can test all of your bookmarks, and will tell you which ones are dead or unavailable. These can then be automatically removed from your bookmark collection.

The unregistered version of URLMenu is limited to checking 100 links - the registered version will check as many as you can throw at it!

Quick Search

URLMenu 'knows' how to submit queries to most major search engines - just type what you want to search for, and the results appear in your browser. This lets you rapidly use a number of search engines without waiting for their front pages to load. You can even add search engines to the Quick Search feature if they are not currently supported.

Dial up networking

If you use a lot of different dial up networking sessions, you'll find URLMenu helps you a little. A submenu allows you to quickly kick off the session of your choice. Like many of the features in URLMenu, it's a small thing, but added together with all the others, URLMenu becomes an essential tool in your Internet arsenal!
