Pastebin performance improved
Pastebin never used to retain more than a few thousand posts, but the recent feature to allow longer post retention exposed a few performance issues. If you noticed pastebin.com being a little slow, my apologies.
I’ve made a number of fixes to address the problem, if you notice further issues, do let me know with a comment below.

Prior to the release of the expiry control feature on May 7th, posts were kept for a maximum of 30 days. Now, you can choose to store posts which are kept forever.

Damn, seems I didn’t do quite enough. I’ve added a simple cache for recent posts which seems to be helping now…

lots of old posts have been deleted

Old posts have *always* been deleted, that’s not new. What’s new is you can now opt to retain your posts. None of those have ever been deleted.
The server that runs pastebin is pretty much dedicated to it but has been rather slow again today, despite a number of performance fixes. I’ll do some more benchmarking to see where the bottleneck has moved to…

Discussing some VBS (which sucks anyway, but I have to use it

@lordelph: Wondering if all the changes you’ve mentioned in this post automatically show up in the file that can be downloaded at http://pastebin.com/pastebin.tar.gz …

I haven’t build a new tarball yet as there are incomplete changes for the translation. Should be ready this week.
Unless you’re running a pastebin site with similar volume to pastebin.com, chances are you won’t really need the optimizations I’ve added though.

I get the same errors Matthias gets. And http://xyz.pastebin.com dies, too, without even getting a page delivered!

Im sure the guy does this for pleasure and not business. He can’t be online 24/7, things will get fixed in his own time frame. Just appreciate all the hard work he puts in. Ive used this site countless times and appreciate it fully….

Table pastebin doesn’ exist, i don’t think lordelph deleted table pastebin just for fun.
I think someone have hacked pastebin and deleted table pastebin (maybe) as you can see the last user that posted in pastebin was PalazzO and you can see the time (1 sec)
# PalazzO
This means that after he posted something went wrong and the time stopped to count in that moment.

All private pastebins are out of commission. What’s wrong?

Thanks for all the messages, unusually, I’ve been “off the grid” for 3 days and am sorting this out now. Thanks for the alerts, sorry about the problems…

As you probably know, it’s extremely slow again nowadays. Seems to mostly affect subdomains. Apologies if you were aware, but ya did ask for us to comment =).

Doesn’t seem to work at all for me.
I’ve tried it a couple of times over the last week or so and I cannot get a response at all. It always times out before returning anything.
Jules.

Hi, I’m trying to post something on pastebin and never get a response back from the POST submission. Some performance issue or other problems?
